Making a FOX Puppet! Part 2

The children are pondering over which part of the fox puppet craft they are holding onto (the tail, the front legs or the hind legs?).

And when they have that figure out, they must decide exactly where they should paste it on the orange toilet roll (they got those painted in the week before).

Unlike when they were in KiDs' Clubhouse L1 (2006), the teachers will provide minimal assistance and have them complete the task on their own.

This hands-on learning experience is simply marvellous and engaging for the little ones while at the same time enable us to see how much these children had grown over the past 1 year.

Now That's Teamwork!

Look at how these young children are learning to share and help each other to solve the puzzles presented to them.

They might still need help and guidance from the teachers in getting the right answers to the puzzles but the important thing is; they are picking up invaluable social and communication skills which can only be learned in doing, not sitting down and reading from a book.

Into the FOX hole!

This week we are focusing on the letter 'X' and of course its unique phonics sound. The children had great fun listening to a wonderful story about hungry Mr. Fox and discovered that the word 'Fox' ends with the letter 'X'. (listening carefully to its pronunciation)

And while we were at it, all of us (except little *Natalie) pretended to be foxes and crawl through the 'fox hole' (tunnel play), creating a fun and lasting impression of Mr. Fox as well as enhancing the learning experience of letter 'X'.

*Today is Natalie's 4th day at Little Bosses Co., and we are so proud of her as she didn't cry or sob after the first 30 minutes or so. That's quite an accomplishment for a tot who is barely 2 years old (without mummy). What an brave and independent little one!

"Before & After" series; Yuki Tan

Yuki has been with us since 2005; these photos were from then, in October 2005. You can see the baby fat face of the 2 year old. ; )

This is Yuki now, September 2007. Two years on, she has grown into a fine young girl. Not just in the physical aspects but in her social skills, linguistics and self confidence. It is really satisfying and heart warming to watch and witness the growing process in all the children at Little Bosses Co.

Making a Fox Puppet! Part 1

"Now, time to put on your apron and start painting these toilet rolls to make our FOX puppets children."

The children screamed. And the teachers get the "feel and high" of being a Superstar! ; >

The children simply adore the idea of creating an artistic mess.

They get to mix the paints given to them and turn them into brand new colours from the original. And as soon as they gotten the rolls painted, they started to splash colours on any paper they could get hold of.

And there are the "adventurous" lot who will start painting the hands when they can't find anything else to put their creative juices on.

Yes, it is a fact. They love the artistic mess! They really do. (gonna spend time clearing the mess left behind) And we love it too! : )

Have lots of FUN to learn better!

The basis of any class sessions should always be fun play.

Because when children are having fun, laughing along with their friends, learning becomes easy. They (the kids), as well as us adults, always acquire new knowledge when we are immersed in an exciting learning environment.

The Little Clock Makers...

The kids were learning more about reading time from the clock. What better way than to have them make their very own clocks to reinforce the concept?

They were excited to design the faces of their clocks and g0 creative ga-ga over it. To make things even more interesting, the children also got to paste the numbers 1-12 on the clock's face and learn the 'seemingly complicated' number sequence (remember that they are just 3-4 years and the presentation of numbers round the clock's face looks kinda confusing to the little ones when they were tasked to paste them).
